Mary(Wholly)

This was the first song written, and it was written specifically to set up the theme of the album. Travelling with the wyrds has exposed me to a life I would never have experienced anywhere else, and it has opened me to the concept of a world which exists beyond my own borders. These are all great gifts. In my travels, I have met thousands of people who believe that it is only a matter of time before everyone wakes up and realizes the inevitable... We are on the cusp of a spiritual evolution. We either evolve, spiritually, or we fail. Blessed people everywhere, who have showed me more faith than I knew existed, believe in the goodness of life. Of people. Of god in whatever form that takes. And in the belief and life of joy, as part of our spiritual revolution. The common recurring theme is that we need to achieve 'whole-ness'. Our world is broken because we are broken. There is too much aggression and greed, and not enough nurturing and healing. Healthiness is comprised of whole-ness. The yin and the yang. The three-in-one. The seasons. Morning and night. Work and rest...

Mary(Wholly) is about reclaiming a part of our humanity which has atrophied. Years of one half denying the other has led us to the brink we are now at. We need, among other things, to recognize, embrace and employ what is thought of as 'the feminine' in our world, in order to allow us to survive.

The song started out as a chant, and itself evolved into the state it is in.

Lyrics

mary, I think you've got something to say
but what kind of language will you wrap your tongue around
when 2000 years have worn you away?

in your belly
in your breast
where you work
where you rest
when you come, when you leave
holy
we believe...

mary, I think you've got something to say
but what kind of language will you wrap your tongue around
when 2000 years have worn you away?

mary, it's time for you to come home
the human is skipping a beat
we won't make it on our own..

in your belly
in your breast
where you work
where you rest
when you come, when you leave
holy
we believe...

mary, bless this final hour
show us that man is not just about his war
with his sex as his only power..

mary, watch us as we bleed
it's the heart's missing pulse
not religion that we need...

in your belly
in your breast
where you work
where you rest
when you come, when you leave
holy
we believe...
wholly, wholly, holy

Wholly
